balaclava fiasco

Hehe, just read the title and it sounds like I`m writing about the fiancee of Donnie Brasco or something...
Anyway, the balaclava: if I`m honest, my jaw was practically dislodged for two whole days after the Wee Man had asked me to make him one. I know how fussy he is about `things touching skin, especially on face`, but obviously, I didn`t want to give him any ideas, so I didn`t say a word, just gave him The Big Yarn Box and let him choose a colour. Then refused to knit a postbox red balaclava, and told him to choose another one.
So, this is how we ended up with this pine air freshener green one (for stitchers: DMC 699), which I finished this morning - but only so that I could tick this box too; by then Gregory`d told me that there was no way he`d put this itchy thing over his face. I managed to persuade him to at least try it on and, again, I have to apologise for the quality of the photos but I really had to be quick this time if I wanted to take a couple of shots before he tore it off his head.

It is such a shame because otherwise it`s a perfect fit, and now he doesn`t want it... ach, well, summer`s coming anyway (allegedly). Oh, and for those who want to repeat my success story (?), I found the pattern here but it was only a starting point: I didn`t have the right sized DPNs, so I knitted it flat and then sewed up the back, and because of the different yarn/gauge issue, I started it with 120 sts instead of 92... oh, and I didn`t switch to stockinette stitch at the top but continued with the rib... so, basically, I changed almost everything about it! :)
I`m off to watch Miss Marple now while I`m stitching (super-secret magazine work so I can`t show you pictures). I`m sure I forgot something but I`ll write about it next time. School starts again tomorrow so that should improve my mental strength a little bit... I hope...?

  1. He looks like one of the Power Rangers. :) Maybe it can be the beginning of the Halloween Costume!

    1. Lol, or I could have made the top black and call it Frankenstein? Maybe the Incredible Hulk at a push? Wee Man plays Monster Crew on the Kindle and he likes the Avengers too - but all this is to no avail, once the face is itchy... :(
