There isn`t much to add to the title - especially, since I very unprofessionally forgot to document exactly when I started to stitch this, so I have no idea how long it took: I`d say roughly 3 weeks but I really don`t know... According to the magazine, it`s a 100-hour project, so let`s go by their calculations.
Cross Stitcher Issue 152 (October 2004) |
The main thing is that it`s done, framed and dusted, and - not because I made it but simply thanks to the design - it`s STUNNING! For the first (well, umpteenth...) time in my life I sooooo wish I knew how to play chess!!!
Well done Laura, thats some achievement. Dont forget to bring it down to Stitches.xx
ReplyDeleteIts been a while since you stitched this, but I saw it online. Had to come here and tell you how beautiful you stitched this. I have the black outline done. lol Long way to go, but thanks for the motivation!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Anne, your message has made my day! Yes, it`s been a while: since then I changed the frame and put the stitching in a darkish brown one, then sold it on Etsy and posted it from Scotland to New York, from where it travelled on, I think, to Turkey... what a colourful life for a colourful stitch, isn`t it? I hope you`ll enjoy every stitch just like I did while I was working on it! :)
Deletewow!it's beautiful........i have also started 2 make one 4 myself........let's hope it comes out as good as yours.....really-hoping 4 2 much.......
ReplyDeleteThanks, Binny, and good luck with yours, I`m sure you`ll succeed :)
ReplyDeletehello this looks great and exactly what I was looking for, can you tell me which magazine it was in?
ReplyDeletethank you
Phew, panic set in for a second, I quite forgot as it was so long ago - but luckily, I wrote it in the caption under the first pic, so it`s from issue 152 of Cross Stitcher :)
DeleteHi there, yes I saw the magazine details in the caption, and then proceeded to try and track it down but as you said, it was so long ago, and the magazine doesn't seem to be available any more. I guess I could probably make up something similar but less involved. I have a chess set I bought in the Hebrides that really deserves a special board
ReplyDeleteIf you`re in the UK, there are a couple of issues up for sale on Ebay just now. But you could easily adapt another design - depending on the size of your chess pieces, you might need to modify this one a bit too, anyway: I remember the squares were quite small, only about 2x2 cm, so I had to use the plastic pieces from the 100 Games box for the photos. But it`s easy to enlarge the design if you use a lower count fabric instead of 14HPI. :)
ReplyDeleteYes I am in the UK, I'll take another look on ebay. Oh really, that small? It looks huge in the photo lol. 2cm would actually be too small, these are large chess pieces, so I would probably have to adapt it anyway or change the fabric as you suggest. Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteIn looking for a chess board pattern to make for my son I found this. It's maddening that the magazines don't make their patterns available (eventually) for purchase in some way. I tried to get the magazine second hand but the seller wants over 30 GBP for SHIPPING to the US. (My UK pen pal recently sent me a more recent copy as well as other items so I know the shipping is not actually that high.)
ReplyDeleteIt`s such a shame 😔 I had a look at the digital library but it only goes back 5 years so this issue from 2004 is not available 😔 Ebay seems to be the only option - try to contact the seller, maybe they`d be willing to lower the price of postage? 🤞 Good luck! 😊
Deletewhere can I get the pattern and instructions for this chessboard?
ReplyDeleteIt`s from Cross Stitcher magazine Issue 152 (October 2004) :)
DeleteIt's hard to track down though
